Eagle Rock sits between Glendale and Pasadena, nestled up to the San Rafael Hills. It is literally named after a rock that casts a shadow of an eagle with its wings outstretched - simple as that. It’s got a great sense of community and feels a little more away-from-it-all, though it offers plenty to do and see. Take a stroll down Hill Drive to see some beautiful homes, or check out Occidental College, alma mater to Barack Obama.
Columbo’s - Everyone loves Columbo’s. It’s an old-school, Italian steakhouse and jazz club. It’s delightful.
Little Beast - For a little more new-school, try Little Beast. After moving to LA from Chicago, it’s one of the first places that I felt like I had a memorable meal here, and I’ll always love it for that. I crave their liver mousse. It’s nice for a small birthday dinner or date night, with a charming patio out back.
Eagle Rock Plaza - I won’t lie, Eagle Rock Plaza (a mall) is kind of a weird place. It is, however, useful. There’s a Target there, my optometrist is inside, you can grocery shop below at Seafood City, and I always buy my Christmas tree at “Cougar Mountain” which posts up in the parking lot every year. Also, for what it’s worth, I just discovered that Avril Lavigne’s iconic “Complicated” music video was shot on the grounds.
